QuickBooks/ Bookkeeping (520302.700)

Bookkeeping in the 21st century requires more than knowledge of GAAP principles or an eye for detail—students need relevant computing skills. Intuit® QuickBooks, the industry leader in managerial accounting software for entrepreneurs and small business, provides an easy-to-understand platform for students to grasp accounting concepts while honing skills in the most prevalent bookkeeping application in small business today. Students can validate their QuickBooks knowledge by becoming an Intuit QuickBooks Certified User (QBCU).

Pre-requisites

Let’s talk about the prerequisites. You must have literacy (not necessarily fluency) in both accounting and computers. You must know debits and credits. You must know the basics of income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and equity. And you must know how these functions behave on a profit & loss and balance sheet. But, you also need to know basic computer skills. You need to know the difference, at least on the superficial user level, between a spreadsheet and a database. At least for QuickBooks desktop editions, you need to know the difference between a database program and a database file. You need to be able to navigate your computer and find files, like using Windows File Explorer. If you are working with QuickBooks Online, then being familiar with how an internet browser works should be sufficient computer literacy. If you are fluent in these items before you begin, you will likely pick everything else up very quickly.

Duration

The course duration is 30 class hours.

How we Teach?

We will learn by doing, by providing a presentation, and providing the tools to work through the processes presented. Learning QuickBooks is something best learned by doing, by applying skills to the QuickBooks application. In addition to video instructions we will provide PDF files that can be downloaded and printed. The PDF files allow us a supplemental resource and can be used offline. The PDF files provide us with a hard copy reference to refer back to and something we can use to help explain concepts to others. We will also provide backup files which give us much more flexibility to move around the course and correct mistakes as we learn. If you are new to QuickBooks we recommend working through the material from start to finish but if you have experience or are interested in a particular topic ,we can jump forward using the backup file to restore the data to a point closer to the area you are working on.

All Certification Testing is done in our Campus.

QuickBooks Certified User Certification exams are components of Intuit’s QuickBooks Certification Program endorsed by Intuit Education. The exams are computer-based assessments of knowledge, competencies, and skills related to disciplines such as Implementation and/or Maintenance and include both knowledge based questions like multiple choice & matching and performance based formats.
